Arewa Youth Assembly Faults Call For Sacking Of NMDPRA CEO, Ahmed
The Arewa Youth Assembly, a leading northern group has called on President Bola Tinubu to ignore faceless groups calling for the sack of the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Ahmed Farouk.
The popular group said it understands that a “faceless group,” identified as the Coalition of Northern Youths Organization, joined it in a statement aimed at tarnishing the image of the NMDPRA boss.
Arewa Youth Assembly Speaker, Mohammed Salihu Danlami, in a statement on Wednesday, disassociated the group from what it described as “claims lacking truth and substance and marked by so many errors and misconceptions.”
Danlami said, “We admonish President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to disregard the call to sack the Chief Executive Officer for lack of substance and also call on security agencies to bring these criminals to justice for impersonating the Northern Youths and attempt to blackmail the CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).”
The Coalition of Northern Youths Organization had issued a statement calling for the sack of Farouk for several allegations including abuse of office and acting against the Petroleum Industry Act (section 109) provision on domestic crude supply to local refiners.
But Arewa Assembly said it is in total disagreement with the claims, adding that it strongly condemns the “ill-intended action.”
Arewa Assembly said, “We vehemently resist the shameful and unpatriotic act of these faceless group who are impersonating the Northern Youths. They are not true Northerners but criminals who are out to cause nuisance
“To make clarifications and expose the ignorance of these cowards, Engr. Farouk Ahmed is a versatile individual, highly skilled, well trained, and professional engineer with a pool of experience than spans over three decades.
“Since his appointment, he has been excellent in discharging his duties by upholding the highest standards of transparency, discipline, honesty, accountability, and patriotism in accordance with President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
“Farouk has introduced a number of regulations to aid, coordinate, and guide the activities of the midstream and downstream sectors of the Nigerian petroleum industry.
“The first set of regulations were targeted at mitigating issues involving petroleum transportation and shipment, assignment or transfer of licenses and permits, gas pricing for domestic demand and delivery, natural gas pipeline tariffs, petroleum measurement and midstream and downstream petroleum operations.”
