As Kaduna government relaxes curfew… Normalcy returns, market, business resume

Normalcy has returned to Kaduna as businesses, banks, and markets reopened following the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed on Zaria and Kaduna metropolitan areas on Monday.  

Unlike previous days when demonstrators attempted to defy the curfew, there were no signs of protesters on the streets on Thursday.

The Kaduna Central Market witnessed a rush of buyers and sellers, with people eager to re-stock foodstuffs and essential commodities. 

Additionally, there were no reports of any sporadic gunshots in areas that had previously suffered such incidents.

Kaduna state government announced on Wednesday that the 24-hour curfew has been relaxed. 

The new curfew hours are from 6 pm to 8 am daily, allowing citizens to move freely during the daytime.

A statement issued by the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, late Wednesday, said the new curfew hours will take effect from Thursday. 

He added that the Kaduna State Security Council unanimously agreed to relax the curfew after a thorough review of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs.
