Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina is a South African model, who competed in Miss South Africa 2024 pageant, reaching top 11 finalists.

The model became famous after she was called to be removed from the Beauty contest because of her mixed heritage. Chidimma Adetshina is a South African with a Nigerian and Mozambican ancestry.

 Early Life

Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina was born in 2001 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Soweto, South Africa. Her father is a Nigerian and her mother is Mozambican.

She is currently studying international relations at the University of Pretoria. Her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant has been surrounded by controversy, with some questioning her eligibility  while calling for her removal from the contest due to her citizenship.

Chidimma Adetshina Parents

Adetshina father is a Nigerian of Igbo descent, while her mother is a Mozambican who had became a naturalized citizen of South Africa.

Also, there is claim that Chidimma’s mother is a Zulu South African. Upon confusion of her birthplace and nationality, she  faced backlash from South Africans as they demand proof of her citizenship.

Miss South Africa 2024

Chidimma Adetshina was competing in Miss South Africa 2024, reaching the top 11 finalists before she controversially pulled out of the competition following series of backlash due to her multiethnicity background.

Following investigation by South African’s Department of Home Affairs about the background of her parent’s citizenship, Chidimma withdrew herself from the pageant, citing a fear for her safety and well-being and that of her family.

After withdrawal,  Adetshina’s parents citizenship background revealed by the Department of Home Affairs found preliminary evidence of fraud and Identity theft committed by Adetshina’s mother to obtain South African citizenship in 2001.

Due to the online abuse,  Adetshina received support from different individuals and organization, advocating and calling an end to the xenophobic attack while calling her the face of a diverse South Africa.  South Africa celebrity Tyla also defended her against online bully

Miss Universe Nigeria

In August 2024, Adetshina was invited and accepted the invitation to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria 2024. The Miss Universe Nigeria competition is taking place on August 31st, 2024.
