Twitch streamer Chrisnxtdoor, a prominent member of the popular AMP group alongside notable figures like Kai Cenat and Fanum, has publicly criticized Complex magazine following their apology for a significant error in a recent article. The controversy erupted after Complex mistakenly identified Chrisnxtdoor as the individual involved in a serious allegation, which actually pertained to Kai Cenat’s cameraman, ChrisV.
The initial article, published on July 30, 2024, reported on accusations against ChrisV, who was alleged to have sent inappropriate messages to a minor. However, the article erroneously identified ChrisV as Chrisnxtdoor, causing a significant backlash. The mistake was only corrected after Chrisnxtdoor’s lawyer intervened, leading to an apology from Complex on August 4.
Chrisnxtdoor did not hold back in his response to the apology. He took to social media to express his displeasure, emphasizing that Complex only acted after his lawyer contacted them multiple times. He pointed out the discrepancy in Complex’s claim of immediate correction:
“Immediate? That’s cap. My lawyer spoke to the President of Complex twice at one a.m and told him about it. Someone on the editorial team finally fixed it around six a.m.”
Furthermore, Chrisnxtdoor criticized the timing of the apology, stating, “This apology 5 days late.”
The incident began when allegations against ChrisV surfaced, with screenshots of explicit messages allegedly sent to a minor going viral on X. This led to widespread condemnation, including from FaZe Clan member YourRage, who highlighted Kai Cenat’s efforts to address the situation.
Kai Cenat took swift action, severing ties with ChrisV and addressing the allegations in an emotional Twitch stream. The story quickly gained traction, with multiple media outlets reporting on it. However, Complex’s error in misidentifying the accused significantly escalated the situation.
In response to the mistake, Complex released an apology on their official X page. The statement detailed their efforts to correct the error and announced actions taken against the writer responsible. The magazine’s apology read:
“Complex would like to extend a sincere apology to Chrisnxtdoor and all those affected by this lapse in journalistic diligence. Complex has severed its relationship with the writer responsible for publishing the post in question, and the editorial board has instituted new protocols to ensure that mistakes of this nature do not happen again.”
Chrisnxtdoor was not satisfied with the apology, feeling that it came too late and only after significant pressure from his legal team. He voiced his frustration, highlighting the impact of the mistake on his reputation.
Kai Cenat also expressed his disappointment with Complex during a livestream, emphasizing the damage caused by the incorrect reporting. He defended Chrisnxtdoor, describing him as someone who minds his own business and is undeserving of such negative attention:
