Euphoria Star Maintains Impressive Rotten Tomatoes Streak With New 2024 Horror Movie

A Euphoria star continues their impressive Rotten Tomatoes streak with a new 2024 horror movie, Cuckoo. Written and directed by Tilman Singer, the upcoming horror film follows an American teenager who moves to the German Alps to live with her father and becomes unsettled by the eerie happenings around her as her father’s boss embroils her family in a sinister plot. Euphoria‘s Hunter Schafer leads the cast of Cuckoo alongside Jan Bluthardt, Marton Csokas, Jessica Henwick, and Dan Stevens.

Following its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February, more reviews are now being published ahead of its theatrical release on August 9. Cuckoo‘s Rotten Tomatoes score has solidified at 79% with just over 70 reviews, though it could still fluctuate slightly as more are published. However, the score should still maintain Schafer’s impressive Rotten Tomatoes streak since every project she has starred in, across both television and film, has a Fresh score.

Schafer made her acting debut as the transgender high school student, Jules, in HBO’s popular series Euphoria which premiered in 2019 to rave reviews and an 80% Rotten Tomatoes score with particular praise for its performances, including Schafer’s​​​​​​. In between the first two seasons, Jules was the subject of a one-hour special, “Fuck Anyone Who’s Not a Sea Blob” (96%), which Schafer also co-wrote, receiving much praise for her performance and the episode’s exploration of trans identity. In 2022, Schafer returned as Jules in Euphoria season 2 (79%).

Following her standout performance in Euphoria, Schafer was awarded the opportunity to star in feature films, the first of which was a voice-only role in the English dub of the animated Japanese movie, Belle (95%). From there, she made her first live-action appearance in a feature film, which happened to a blockbuster, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (64%), playing Tigris Snow. Schafer also had a small cameo in Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest film, Kinds of Kindness (71%).

It’s certainly well-earned by the star, as Cuckoo reviews praise Schafer’s dynamic performance for elevating the wildly eccentric horror film.
