FCT Smart School commences academic session in September
At last, the technology-driven Smart School model for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) which has been in the pipeline since last year is to commence academic programme in the next session, starting in September, 2024.
This was announced by the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, Tuesday, in Abuja.
The minister, who was accompanied to the school premises located at Karchi in the company of his Minister of State, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, the executive secretary of Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Dr Hammid Boboyi, and other top executives of the ministry, said the smart school which is the only one in the territory would be a model for all other states in the country.
While admonishing the staff on the need for excellence, he said, “You have the opportunity of starting this model institution driven by technology to make learning interactive for our toddlers and learners; therefore, we are happy that you are here as pioneer staff. I encourage you to take this job very serious,” he said.
On his part, the Minister of State, Tanko Sununu, called on traditional rulers in Karshi under whose domain the school is located to take charge by complementing the efforts of the government on security for the safety of the pupils, staff and multi-million naira federal government investment, even as he challenged other state governments to take a cue from the FCT by providing an enabling environment for the model school to be established in the states, especially as it is meant to be replicated in all the 36 states.
The Smart School comprises primary and junior secondary school with special attention for children with special needs. It also has a live broadcast studio that disseminates information in the form of radio and television broadcast to the whole classes and offices. It also has a computer laboratory with a server for internet services, play ground, a block of hostel for pupils and staff lodges akin to what obtains at public educational institutions in developed countries.
