Ganduje’s Corruption Case Files Stolen During Protests – Kano Govt

The Kano State government has revealed that protesters who invaded the Kano State High Court during the #EndBadGovernancelnNigeria protests made away with some vital documents used in the trail of the immediate past governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The incident was confirmed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during a visit to assess the damages on Wednesday.

The governor was conducted around the court premises by the state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Isah Dederi, Chief Registrar of the High Court, Alhaji Abdullahi Ado Bayero, and some judges.

THE WHISTLER reported that on April 4, the Kano government filed a suit against Ganduje, his wife, Hafsat Umar and six others before the Kano High Court.

The six others include Ganduje’s son, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Abubakar Bawuro, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Ltd., Safari Textiles Ltd., and Lesage General Enterprises.

Also, the state government on August 9 filed fresh charges against Ganduje, his Commissioner for Local Government, Murtala Garo and two others.

According to the charge sheet, Garo, Lamin Sani and Muhammad Takai were charged with criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, making false statements or return and criminal misappropriation of Local government allocations, all to the tune of N57.4 billion.

The #EndBadGovernancelnNigeria protests in Kano state took a violent turn as it led to the loss of lives and damage of government properties including the High Court.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the invasion was allegedly perpetrated by Ganduje’s loyalists sent to cart away the documents relating to his case.

He said “It is very unfortunate that enemies of Kano State hired undesirable elements to vandalized one of the historic public buildings with a mission of averting corruption charges against the Ag. National Chairman of APC and former governor of the state Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his family and aides,”

Tofa said the invasion of the Court led to the destruction of various important assets of the Court, burning of cars, loss of vital equipment, and destruction of the office of the state Chief Judge, all anointing to a N1 billion naira loss for the state.

Governor Yusuf commiserated with the Chief Judge, Dije Abdu Aboki on the losses and promised the support of his government, urging the judiciary in the state to continue to discharg its duties for the good of the people.

He advised youths to avoid being used by politicians to wreak havoc in the state.
