Nerdrotic Faces Allegations of Racism, Transphobia, and Misogyny; Responds with Mocking Tweet
YouTuber Gary “Nerdrotic” has recently come under fire following a series of serious allegations made against him. On August 3, 2024, an X user named @MinuteNerdNews ignited the controversy with a series of tweets labeling Nerdrotic as a “piece of s**t” and accusing him of perpetuating outrage and anger for personal gain.
@MinuteNerdNews’s thread began with a critique of Nerdrotic’s content strategy, accusing him and his associates of being “grifters” who manipulate minor frustrations to stoke significant anger within their audience. They wrote:
“Before I focus my attention solely on this garbage, let us first focus our attention on the explanation of what it is he and his little grifter friends do. That’s right folks – they sell you outrage and anger. This is what they do. They make mountains out of molehills to capitalize on an insignificant frustration their target demographic might be feeling and heighten the issue rather than tame it.”
The thread continued with accusations of biased praise towards MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movies featuring “White, male, and straight” protagonists. The user suggested that Nerdrotic’s approval was limited to films that fit this demographic mold, implying a discriminatory bias in his reviews:
“But of course, he has praise for the M-She-U! But only when it involves movies where the main protagonist is White, male, and straight. (Marvel has only experienced one failure in its entire history as lackluster as some of the box office was in P4 with 2 movies crossing $1B).”
The accusations escalated with claims of racism, supported by a ten-second clip from one of Nerdrotic’s videos. In the clip, he made a controversial comment about the lack of men in Wakanda, which @MinuteNerdNews interpreted as racially insensitive:
“What there wasn’t a lot of was men. Not sure what happened to all the dudes in Wakanda. Maybe they went off to get a pack of Salems and they never came back. Holy s**t, I don’t know if I can keep that one in.”
@MinuteNerdNews did not hold back, calling Nerdrotic “a racist” and suggesting he admit to being a White supremacist. The user criticized him for making “racially charged comments about Echo” and labeled him as a “racist, homo/transphobic, misogynist.”
The thread also touched on Nerdrotic’s personal struggles, acknowledging his sobriety journey but accusing him of being “addicted to hatred and negativity”:
“You may have sobered up and I’ve seen firsthand how difficult that is and must have been to you. But you’ve relapsed into addiction. You’re addicted to hatred and negativity. You’re addicted to the engagement it brings, that furthers your hatred and negativity.”
In response to these allegations, Nerdrotic took to X on August 4, 2024, posting a photo of controversial internet personality Jeremy “TheQuartering” with the caption:
“Good morning. My channel is under attack.”
Later, he retweeted a post from @DramaAlert about the controversy, adding a dismissive comment:
“Oh, NO!!!! BWAHAHHAHAHA.”
The reactions to Nerdrotic’s response have been mixed, with some fans defending him and others condemning his dismissive attitude towards serious accusations. The unfolding drama highlights the polarizing nature of internet personalities and the ongoing debate over accountability and freedom of speech in digital media.
