Paradigm Initiative Empowers Sokoto Youths with ICT, Entrepreneurship Skills
In a significant move to address the digital skills gap among young people in underserved communities, Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN) has successfully trained 30 youths in Sokoto State on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools and entrepreneurship skills.
The non-governmental organization conducted a 10-week free training under its Life Skills, ICTs, Financial Readiness, and Entrepreneurship (LIFE) scheme. This initiative, carried out in partnership with Greenmedia Digital Academy, Sokoto, aims to improve the lives of youths across the African continent.
Mr. Ihueze Nwobilor, LIFE Senior Program Officer, said that the program is designed to expose youths to various digital skills, making them self-reliant and beneficial to their immediate communities.
He said the third cohort of the program will ensure that more underserved youth are enrolled in the state
While speaking the Executive Director of Greenmedia Digital Academy Prince Tunde Omolehin revealed that the beneficiaries were trained in various ICT tools including graphic design, web development, Google productivity tools, and digital marketing.
He added that the graduates will now embark on 6-month internships with various organizations.
The program has garnered support from key stakeholders in Sokoto State. Professor Mustapha Na Makka, Executive Secretary of the Sokoto State Female Education Board, praised the initiative for aligning with the state governor’s 9-point agenda and prioritizing female education in the technology ecosystem.
Paradigm Initiative plans to continue working with relevant stakeholders in Sokoto state to connect underserved youth with digital skills and expose them to similar ICT opportunities globally.
The organization will monitor the progress of the trainees during their internship period through a training tracker platform.
The graduation ceremony saw various stakeholders, including the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and the Sokoto State Coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations (CONSS), commending the initiative and pledging support for future collaborations.
As digital skills become increasingly crucial in today’s world, initiatives like this are paving the way for a more inclusive and technologically adept youth population in Sokoto State and beyond.
