A mobile police officer who was abducted last week has been found dead in a bush near Bangalala, Plateau State, four days after his disappearance.
The officer was part of a security team fighting bandits terrorizing the Kampani community in the Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, which borders Taraba State.
THE WHISTLER reported that the incident happened on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, when the police office and a soldier was ambushed by bandits. While the soldier accompanying the officer managed to escape, the policeman was taken captured.
A resident of Wase town who confirmed the discovery of the officerโs lifeless body on Sunday to Daily Trust, expressed concerns about the growing insecurity in the region.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, decline comment on the development but said, โHe is attached to FCS, they have a PRO.โ
The incident comes as various communities in Wase local government area have been facing attacks by bandits in recent times.
On May 21, 2024, bandits reportedly attacked Zurak community, killing over 40 villagers and injuring many including vigilantes who were supporting security personnel to restore law and order in the area.
