Pre-season setback: Heartland FC bus involved in road accident, players injured

Heartland Football Club’s vehicle was involved in a severe accident on Friday, August 23, 2024.

The incident occurred at Umunna, near Okigwe in Imo State, while the team was en route to Abakaliki for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT Pre-season Tournament.

According to reports, several players and officials sustained varying degrees of injuries and received first-aid treatment at a nearby facility.

In a statement, the former Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side confirmed the incident:

“The accident occurred at Umunna, near Okigwe in Imo State.

The vehicle, in an attempt to avoid an oncoming vehicle, collided with another that was carelessly parked following an earlier accident.”
