Rebecca Ferguson Joins Andrew Garfield & Claire Foy In Movie Adaptation Of Classic Children's Novel
Rebecca Ferguson joins the cast of the movie adaptation of The Magic Faraway Tree. The film is based on the classic children’s novel of the same name, the second book in a series of four by author Enid Blyton. The stories take place in an enchanted wood where a giant, magical tree grows so tall that its tallest branches reach the clouds and so wide that there are houses carved into its trunk. The film will follow Polly (Claire Foy) and Tim Thompson (Andrew Garfield) as they relocate to the remote English countryside with their three children, who find the tree.
Deadline reports that Ferguson has joined Foy and Garfield for the adaptation of The Magic Faraway Tree, which will be directed by Ben Gregor. Details are sparse, but Ferguson will be playing Dame Snap, a headmistress and a character who is referred to as Blyton’s most iconic villain. Known as Dame Slap in earlier versions of the books, Dame Snap runs a school for bad pixies and is described as aggressive and fantastically enjoyable.

Ferguson remains a sought-after name in the industry, as she has several exciting projects coming to the silver screen and streaming services. One of her most anticipated projects is the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie with Cillian Murphy; she also has Mercy with Chris Pratt and the upcoming, untitled Kathryn Bigelow film for Netflix. She will also be reprising her role as Juliette Nichols in Apple TV+’s Silo season 2.
Ferguson’s career really started to take off in 2015 with her role in Mission Impossible — Rogue Nation, where she plays a strong-willed and resourceful femme fatale kind of character, Ilsa Faust. She later returned for two more Mission: Impossible movies. With that, Ferguson established her skill with action parts. However, she hasn’t stuck with one genre, as she has also dabbled in sci-fi (Dune), horror (Doctor Sleep), and musicals (The Greatest Showman).

With The Magic Faraway Tree, Ferguson will once more play a villain, following on from her turn as Rose the Hat in Doctor Sleep. However, her character Dame Snap will likely be a more light-hearted and fantastical villain, more like the kinds of villains seen in early Harry Potter movies. As Ferguson’s credits typically veer more into adult fare, it will be exciting to see her take on a family-friendly bad guy who still has the potential for menacing scenes. With each role, Ferguson delivers, so her part in The Magic Faraway Tree is highly anticipated.
