Tinubu needs support, not protest to salvage economy – Ngwu
A Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Hycient Ngwu, has said what President Bola Tinubu needs is the support of every Nigerian and not protest or uninformed criticism to enable him rejig the economy for maximum growth and development.
Ngwu, a former APC Publicity Secretary in South-East, made the call on Monday in Enugu while commending the people of South-East and Igbo in general for heeding to the counsels of elders and well-meaning leaders to shun the nationwide protest.
The APC chieftain noted that enduring and deep rooted economic recovery and gains come from solidly laid economic foundation that takes time to build, adding: “President Tinubu needed time, patience and cooperation of all.”
Ngwu, who is a foundation member of the APC, noted that sustainable economic recovery and growth requires strong rejigging of the whole economic growth models, microeconomics as well as macroeconomics.
“This is what the governments, especial the sub-national governments and Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu, are doing presently. They, especially our President, need support and not protest,” he said.
On the Igbo not joining the protest, the APC chieftain noted that by not joining the nationwide protest, the people have undoubtedly reduced the protest to regional protests.
Ngwu, who is a respected chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, explained that Igbo are entrepreneurs with clear understanding that “it takes awhile for proper investments, be it private or public, to start yielding profits or dividends.
“They also understand that proper and deep foundations are required for building high rises that will accommodate many interests.
“Other regions should understand this investment characteristics and therefore give the current administrations in national and subnationals enough time for the rejigging they have implemented in the economy to become effective.
“This will cure all the structural problems currently hindering economic growth and poverty reduction in our country.”
He further appealed to the Ndigbo to neglect and dismiss the call of “Igbos must go” in certain areas as worthless and meaningless invitation to join issues with fake people.
