Abia Govt Vows To Sanction Schools Resuming Academic Activities Before Sept 23

The Abia State Government has vowed to sanction Schools that fail to keep to directives on resumption of academic activities fixed for September 23.

Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu who announced this while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting on Tuesday regretted that some Schools resumed for the session against government’s directives, an action that runs counter to the strong regulatory measures being put in place by the present administration.

“So the ministry of education will carry out some investigations to find out those that did and why they did”, Prince Kanu emphasised .

He expressed concern that the Committee on the recovery of School lands has observed that apart from private individuals, religious organisations, Communities and market Associations were part of the anomalies, and assured that the Committee is not relenting in the task.

Kanu further warned against the malicious destruction of public Properties, revealing that the management of a company that damaged newly constructed culvert along Ossah-mission hill road have been arrested.

“The state government is using this opportunity to call on communities, traditional rulers, and youth to take ownership of all government properties within their communities”, he advised.

The commissioner disclosed that Governor, Dr Alex Otti will be hosting a delegation of South East Council of Traditional Rulers on the 24th of this month.

Recall that the state government had last week postponed the resumption date for both public and private schools in the state for the 2024/2025 academic session noting that it coincided with the Muslim Eld-el-Maulud Celebration.

The government announced that schools across the state will resume on Wednesday, September 23, instead of Monday, September 16, originally scheduled.
