The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his dedication to assisting security agencies within the state to promote efficient policing throughout the region.
He expressed this commitment during a meeting with the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, CP J. O. Eribo, at the Government House in Uyo on Tuesday.
CP Eribo is the 33rd Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State and replaced Waheed Ayilara who passed on in August.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ekerete Udoh, the governor expressed his readiness to work with the CP on security matters, particularly in the forthcoming local government elections, which, according to him, may be their first joint task in the state.
He also highlighted the efforts of his administration to enhance the state’s security architecture, including the launch of the Ibom Community Watch, whose members were trained by the police. This, he noted, underscores the government’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies.
Eno acknowledged with delight the CP’s high profile and intellectual accomplishments, indicating that his wealth of knowledge and experience would be an added advantage to the state’s security framework.
On his part, the new CP commended Akwa Ibom State for being peaceful and well-organised and assured the Governor of his intention to partner with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective policing across the state.
