Anambra Service Chiefs To Deploy More Personnel Ahead Sept LG Polls
Service Chiefs of the different security agencies in Anambra state have said they are looking at bringing in more security operatives into the state to ensure that the upcoming local government elections are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.
They disclosed this on Thursday during a joint ‘Security Master Plan’ presentation for the 5720 polling units in the 326 wards in the state to the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, (ANSIEC)
The document is geared towards achieving a hitch free local government election come 28th September, 2024.
The service chiefs made the presentation through the Commissioner for Police, Mr. Nnaghe Itam at the state Police headquarters in Amawbia.
According to Mr Itam, the security master plan is their operation document for the 21 local government areas drawing strength from the Police, the Nigerian Military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA); Man O’ War and other volunteer security outfit.
He said the plan targets to provide at least two to four security officers in each polling unit based on resources available.
He acknowledged that the volatile security situation in the state with non-state criminal formations operating over eleven active camps in different parts of the state, assured that the security agencies in the state are collaborating to flush those criminal groups and insurgents.
He assured the public that with the Security master plan fully implemented, the September 28th local government election will become a huge success.
Earlier, the Chairman of ANSIEC, Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe appreciated the service chiefs for their partnership and solicited for more support as Governor Chukwuma Soludo places high priority on free, fair and credible polls as a way to restore security and ensure massive developments in all parts of the state.
