Bauchi Gov Fires Commissioner, Scraps Local Govt Ministry

The commissioner of health for Bauchi State, Dr. Adamu Sambo, has been relieved of his duties by the state Governor, Bala Mohammed.

The governor made the revelation on Monday, during the swearing-in of the Chief Security Advisor and three commissioners.

The governor announced during his speech at the event that the Ministry of Local Government will no longer have a commissioner under his administration.

According to him, the decision followed the implementation of the new local government legislation in the state.

The Chief Security Advisor was fired, and two other commissioners quit to contest for chairmanship positions in local governments.

Governor Mohammed said at the brief event, which took place in conjunction with the State Executive Council meeting that, “We are also here to fill the vacancy created as a result of the voluntary retirement of three commissioners so that at least every local government will be given parity and representation in the cabinet as required by the constitution.

“We have dropped one of the commissioners, the former Commissioner of Health, because we have to reposition ourselves, thus reducing the cost of governance and shrinking the establishment for the government as well as implementing the Supreme Court judgement on local government.

“Henceforth, we will no longer have a Commissioner for Local Government,” the Governor revealed.

Recall that in June, Ahmed Jalam, the previous Commissioner for Local Government, lost his life in a car accident.
