BTS’ J-Hope Buys Two Seoul Luxury Apartments for $15 Million in Cash
BTS member J-Hope has reportedly made a massive real estate investment by purchasing two luxury apartments in Seoul. According to a report from BizHankook, J-Hope bought two apartments in the prestigious Aper Hangang complex, located in Seobinggo-dong, Yongsan, Seoul. The combined value of the two properties is an estimated ₩20 billion, which is approximately $15 million USD. What makes the purchase even more notable is that the BTS rapper paid the full amount in cash, without taking out any loans.
J-Hope, whose real name is Jung Ho-seok, made these acquisitions while fulfilling his mandatory military service. The report details that he first bought a penthouse unit for ₩12 billion (approximately $9 million USD) and shortly after secured ownership of a second unit directly below the penthouse. The total price for both apartments amounts to around $15 million USD.
The first apartment J-Hope purchased is a luxurious duplex penthouse with three bedrooms and four bathrooms, covering an exclusive area of 273.86 square meters (83 pyeong) and a supplied area of 361.09 square meters (110 pyeong). This purchase was initially signed for on June 3, 2020, with ownership transferred to J-Hope in June 2023.
The second unit, located directly below the penthouse, is a single-story apartment with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It has an exclusive area of 232.86 square meters (70 pyeong) and a supplied area of 299.68 square meters (91 pyeong). J-Hope signed the contract for this second unit on June 23, 2020, and completed the purchase in July 2023, when he paid the balance in full.
With this new acquisition, J-Hope now owns a total of four luxury properties in Seoul—two units in the Aper Hangang complex and two others in Tree Maze, another upscale residential area. The Aper Hangang building is known to house several high-profile celebrities, including actors Kim Go-eun, Gong Yoo, and Soo Ae, highlighting the exclusivity of the location.
J-Hope enlisted in the South Korean military in April 2023, as required by the country’s mandatory service laws. Currently serving as an instructor at the Baekho Recruit Training Center under the 36th Infantry Division, J-Hope gained attention for his early promotion to corporal, just two months into his service. He is expected to be discharged in October 2024, after which BTS is anticipated to reunite as a group in 2025, once all members complete their service.
Even while fulfilling his military duties, J-Hope’s recent real estate investments show his keen interest in high-end properties. His purchase of these luxury apartments reflects his financial acumen and long-term planning, as luxury real estate in Seoul has become a popular investment among celebrities and wealthy individuals.
While J-Hope is currently in the military, his fellow BTS member Jin recently completed his service. Jin, who was discharged in 2023, interacted with fans on Weverse, where he commented on J-Hope’s service, encouraging him to “work hard” and mentioning that his own discharge left him little time to rest before resuming his career.
Other BTS members, including RM, Suga, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, are also expected to fulfill their mandatory service commitments in the coming years. BTS plans to reconvene as a group around 2025, following the conclusion of their military duties.
J-Hope’s latest real estate ventures add to his growing list of accomplishments, both in and out of the music industry. As one of the wealthiest and most successful K-pop stars, his investments in luxury properties further cement his financial success and influence in the entertainment world.
