FG signs pact to boost soil quality in agric practice

The National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Flux Carbon Pre Ltd.

Speaking, agreement signed on Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, said agriculture as the backbone of Nigeria’s economy contributes a substantial 25 per cent to national GDP and also provides livelihood for more than 70 per cent of its citizens. Adding that, the partnership would introduce innovative methods to improve crop yields and also lower cost to farmers.

According to him, the current surge in food prices across Nigeria, underlines the urgent need for innovative and sustainable solutions.

Nnaji further said that the partnership between Flux Carbon and NBRDA, will ensure innovative solutions adapt to local conditions, leveraging the expertise and resources available in Nigeria.

Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of Flux Carbon Pre Ltd Sam Davies, said the partnership with the Agency would foster innovative solutions particularly in the area of climate change and food security.

In his remarks, the Director-General NBRDA Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, said that the initiative will enhance smart farming and food production in Nigeria.

He said, “The story is not complete until we go back to the soil and use the local and natural resources to improve soil quality. This will make the story complete.”

Lauding the initiative, the Permanent Secretary FMIST Mrs Esuabana Nko-Asanye, said without quality soil, it will not achieve any agricultural exploit.
