GRRM's Season 2 Renewal Support For Cancelled Prime Series Gets Response From Star
My Lady Jane star Edward Bluemel responds to George R.R. Martin’s surprising support of the canceled Prime Video series. The 2024 show retold the life of the titular short-lived English monarch in a more fantastical reality amid the ascendancy crisis that led to her own experience on the throne. Bluemel portrayed Lord Guildford Dudley, Lady Jane Grey’s lover and one of the shape-shifting Ethians who find themselves persecuted by the powerless Verity ruling class. My Lady Jane was canceled after one season.
Though My Lady Jane has remained canceled for almost a month, there have been numerous fan-led attempts to revive it. Now, taking to his personal Instagram story, Bluemel shared a screenshot of Martin’s blog, where the Song of Ice and Fire author shared his support for the series, his dismay at its cancelation, and the petition launched to save it. Sharing his appreciation for Martin’s endorsement, Bluemel was quick to highlight the work of showrunner Meredith Glynn in crafting the series. You can see his post below:

Despite being a critical success for Prime Video, it can be argued that the streaming platform didn’t give the series a proper chance to prosper. Alongside an understated promotional campaign missed by many, My Lady Jane was also released in a single drop as opposed to weekly episode debuts. While this didn’t hinder Prime Video’s other big new 2024 release, Fallout, My Lady Jane lacked the pre-established fanbase the video game adaptation held, and it wasn’t allowed to grow its viewership organically.
While there is no promise that a petition will be enough to get a season 2, the campaign has still raised awareness for My Lady Jane, hopefully increasing its viewership further.
However, even in the face of cancelation, My Lady Jane may not be ready to fade into the shadows just yet. Alongside the controversial cancelation of Disney+’s The Acolyte, both situations have left many discussing the current state of television and its sustainability, while viewers carry on the fights for shows through passionate petition campaigns.
