A second Fire Country spinoff appears to be more likely, as Jared Padalecki signs a major deal with CBS. After a 15-season run as Sam Winchester on the monster-hunting drama Supernatural, Padalecki had already lined up his next role on The CW with Walker. The reboot of the 1990s action series lasted four seasons, coming to an end earlier this year. But it looks like the veteran TV star has already lined up his next starring role, which will be previewed in Fire Country season 3.
Deadline reports that CBS Studios has extended its first-look deal with Padalecki. The deal, which means that Padalecki is involved with developing and producing a new series for CBS Studios, comes as the actor will guest star in three episodes of Fire Country season 3, with the potential for a spinoff built around his character.

Padalecki will play Camden in Fire Country, a SoCal firefighter and maverick. According to the official description, Camden has a “surfer swagger” and is a force to be reckoned with. It’s teased that he immediately recognizes the raw talent of Bode, the lead character played by Max Thieriot. If the guest appearance goes well, Padalecki’s character could move on to his own spinoff, but that is in its early stages so far, with no writer attached.
There have been efforts to turn the firefighting drama, created by Tony Phelan, Joan Rater, and Thieriot, into a franchise.
The spinoff, which is tentatively titled Fire Country: Surfside, is different from the already-announced Sheriff Country spinoff starring Deadpool and Homeland lead Morena Baccarin. It signals the invested interest that CBS Studios has in the Fire Country universe. There have been efforts to turn the firefighting drama, created by Tony Phelan, Joan Rater, and Thieriot, into a franchise. That seems to be taking shape, with two very recognizable actors attached.
It also signals CBS Studios’ interest in Padalecki. The actor first entered the overall deal in 2022, with the actor executive producing Walker and the short-lived prequel spinoff Walker: Independence. Now, that deal will likely extend an impressive run on American television that began with his time on Gilmore Girls in the early 2000s and will now extend into joining the Fire Country cast.
Fire Country season 3 premieres on Friday, October 18 at 9 PM ET on CBS.
