One Of TVs Biggest Cliffhanger Endings Has Finally Been Resolved 15 Years Later
One of the biggest cliffhanger endings in television history has finally been resolved 15 years later with the upcoming release of Everybody Still Hates Chris. An animated sequel series to the classic sitcom Everybody Hates Chris that ran for 88 episodes across four seasons between 2005 and 2009 will premiere on September 25, 2024. Everybody Still Hates Chris picks up where the original series left off, as the title suggests, and will be available to watch on Comedy Central.
Everybody Hates Chris had a notable and somewhat frustrating cliffhanger ending in its series finale titled “Everybody Hates the G.E.D.” The animated sequel series will see Chris Rock return as the narrator and also feature original Everybody Hates Chris cast members Terry Crews, Tichina Arnold, and Jacqueline Mazarella. Tim Johnson Jr. (Pacific Rim: Uprising, Fist Fight, Ballers) will replace Tyler James Williams as the titular protagonist.
Everybody Still Hates Chris Resolves The Original Show’s Cliffhanger Ending

In the series finale of Everybody Hates Chris, Chris is informed that if he gets one more tardy, he will have to repeat the 10th grade during the last week of school. Faced with an ultimatum that he will have to stay in high school for an entire additional year, Chris was inspired by his friend Greg to go get his G.E.D. In the final moments of Everybody Hates Chris, Julius meets his family at a restaurant with Chris’s G.E.D. results. Chris asks, “What does it say?” before the screen abruptly cuts to black.
Now with the upcoming release of Everybody Still Hates Chris, we finally know what happened at the end of the original series – Chris failed the exam. “When the series premieres, Chris has failed his G.E.D. and is with his family.” (via Entertainment Weekly). The sequel/reboot series picks up from the diner scene at the end of Everybody Hates Chris. “After revealing that he failed his G.E.D to them, Rochelle knocks him into animation. Literally. Upon contact, Chris, his family, and all of Brooklyn, becomes 2D.”

The ending of Everybody Hates Chris was designed to end on a frustrating cliffhanger, considering it was a parody of The Sopranos’ series finale. Although the two series are completely different, the ending of The Sopranos has gone down as one of the most controversial series finales of all time, while Everybody Hates Chris was mostly doing a bit for the comedic value.
Fans of Everybody Hates Chris could have looked into Chris Rock’s personal life and discovered that Rock never graduated from high school but did earn his G.E.D. before working at Red Lobster, which was also referenced in the original series finale. Perhaps Chris will go for his G.E.D. once again in the animated sequel series Everybody Still Hates Chris.
