Stephen King could not have been more right about Evil season 5, especially now that the show has been canceled after season 4. Since Stephen King has written over 60 books in his writing career, he is best known for his work as a horror author. However, in recent years, the King of Horror has also garnered attention for his unique insights and reviews of the latest TV shows and movies of the horror genre. Given how he has written several bestselling horror novels and many TV and movie adaptations of his books have also performed well, King has a lot of credibility behind his name.

However, despite this, there are times when Stephen King has some hot takes on shows and movies that not everyone may agree with. When it comes to Stephen King’s views on Evil season 5, though, it is hard not to agree with him.

Evil Has Only Scratched The Surface Of The Supernatural Stories It Can Tell

Even before the release of Evil season 4, the CBS show’s cancelation was confirmed. This was surprising since the show consistently performed well from a critical standpoint and still boasts an impressive average Rotten Tomatoes score of 96% across all seasons. Stephen King, too, who had previously called the show (via Twitter) “smart, thought-provoking, occasionally VERY scary,“ campaigned for Evil season 5 by requesting Paramount+ to bring “more EVIL.”

While the precise reason why the show has been canceled remains unknown, it is believed that season 4’s filming shutdown during the writer’s strike may have been one of the contributing factors. Stephen King’s disappointment towards Evil‘s cancelation is understandable given how the show never experienced any decline in its quality over its four-season runtime and seemed reminiscent of some of the most entertaining and well-rounded TV shows, like Warehouse 13, Person of Interest, X-Files, and Fringe.

After running strong for four seasons, Evil also showed immense potential for growth and still has several underlying unresolved plot points that cannot be concluded through bonus episodes. Apart from paving the way for more seasons, Evil also had the potential to branch out into compelling spin-offs focusing on characters like Sister Andrea and the Entity. Unfortunately, after season 5’s cancelation, it seems unlikely that the Evil franchise will get any new installments.

Why Evil Season 5 Isn’t Happening & Could It Still Be Renewed?

There Is Still Some Hope

Evil landed on Netflix right before the release of season 4, which suggests that the streaming giant could explore the option of reviving the series despite its cancelation. In the past, shows like Cobra Kai have been picked up by Netflix after they did not have a streaming home to go to. When they performed well on Netflix, the streaming platform even took it upon itself to extend their stay. Therefore, if Evil season 4 has managed to drive good numbers on Netflix, the streamer could consider producing at least one more season to gauge the show’s true potential.

The series’ high critical ratings could also encourage Netflix to give it a second chance. However, for now, it is hard to be certain about Evil‘s future since its cancelation has been officially confirmed. Hopefully, Stephen King‘s endorsement and the ongoing fan campaign surrounding Evil will prompt other streaming sites to pick it up.
