This One-Season Thriller On Netflix Is The Perfect Show To Watch While Waiting For The Night Agent Season 2
The perfect show to watch while waiting for The Night Agent season 2 is Bodyguard, a British crime drama currently streaming on Netflix. Bodyguard premiered on the BBC Network in 2018 and was later added to Netflix due to its popularity and critical success. Bodyguard, which follows a war veteran as he uncovers a conspiracy, is easily one of the best British shows on Netflix.
The political thriller features an incredible cast led by Game of Thrones star Richard Madden. From the very first episode, Bodyguard provides an enthralling action-oriented plot with compelling characters that those who liked The Night Agent will enjoy. One of the most popular shows of 2023, The Night Agent will return for season 2, although a release date has yet to be confirmed.
Bodyguard Is About A War Veteran Uncovering A Conspiracy
David Budd Worked As A Principal Protection Officer
Bodyguard follows David Budd, an ex-veteran working for the Royal and Specialist Protection Branch of the Metropolitan Police Service. He gets assigned to be the Principal Protection Officer for the Home Secretary, Julia Montague. The Home Secretary was trying to pass a highly controversial bill, and so Budd was asked by his boss to spy on her, which he is initially hesitant to do because of their romantic relationship but eventually agrees.
While giving a speech about her bill at a university, a bomb goes off in the auditorium and the Home Secretary dies. The devastated Budd, who has PTSD from his time in the army, is determined to find out who was behind the attack. During his investigation, Budd uncovers a conspiracy involving police officers and high-ranking government officials. He uses the information he gleaned while spying on Julia to discover who had been behind a series of terrorist attacks.
How Bodyguard Compares To The Night Agent
Bodyguard And The Night Have Several Similarities
The Night Agent and Bodyguard have several things in common. For one, both shows began with the protagonists preventing a terrorist attack on a train. Additionally, Budd and Sutherland were both romantically involved with the people they were supposed to protect and used as scapegoats in the conspiracy. The two shows also had high viewership numbers, with Bodyguard’s last episode garnering 10.4 million views on BBC One (via BBC), while The Night Agent was Netflix’s most-streamed show in the first half of 2023.
His performance as David Budd won Richard Madden a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series Drama.
Although the shows are similar, Bodyguard did a few things better than The Night Agent. For instance, Budd was a much more compelling lead than Sutherland. Budd was an ex-veteran with PTSD and extremely volatile, both traits that were well-explored. While both political thrillers have intriguing plots, Bodyguard‘s shocking ending showed how high the stakes were and how well-paced the twists in the series had been. Unfortunately, whereas The Night Agent season 2 is happening, Bodyguard wasn’t renewed for a second season.
