Wait, Deadpool & Wolverine Still Has One MAJOR Unanswered Question Left
Deadpool & Wolverine furthers the MCU’s overarching Multiverse Saga story, but there’s one big question the movie left unanswered. From the Avengers to Loki and Deadpool, various MCU characters have interacted with alternate timelines since Phase 3’s Avengers: Endgame. Since then, the multiverse has become a central element in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Concepts such as the Sacred Timeline, variants, pruning, absolute points in time, and nexus beings have been introduced in Multiverse Saga installments such as Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Marvel’s What If…?.
Deadpool & Wolverine not only revisits these ideas, but also introduces a couple of new multiversal elements, including the concept of Marvel anchor beings and a more weapon possibly more powerful than the Infinity Gauntlet, Paradox’s timeline-destroying Time Ripper. By the end of the movie, it’s revealed that the new Wolverine variant has decided to stay on Earth-10005, and it’s suggested that Paradox will answer for his criminal actions at the TVA’s headquarters. However, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s emotional ending fails to answer one huge plot point that kicked off the events of the movie.
Not Even Paradox Knows Why The TVA Wants To Save Deadpool From Earth-10005’s Destruction
Deadpool & Wolverine Never Reveals Why The TVA Wants To Give Wade Wilson Another Chance
Deadpool & Wolverine‘s plot happens because Deadpool steals Paradox’s TemPad and searches for a Wolverine variant to replace Earth-10005’s dead anchor being, leading Deadpool and the new Wolverine to be sent to the Void, fighting Cassandra Nova, and keeping her from using the Time Ripper. However, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s plot begins — chronologically — with the TVA kidnapping Deadpool and taking him to Paradox, who informs him about Earth-10005’s imminent destruction. When Deadpool apologizes for using Cable’s time machine in Deadpool 2‘s post-credits scene, Paradox tells him that his time travel shenanigans have nothing to do with the TVA’s decision to capture him.
After Deadpool escapes and brings Paradox a new Wolverine variant, the TVA’s original plans for Deadpool are brushed aside
Deadpool is surprised that the TVA has no problem with him going back in time to save Vanessa and his friends, and Paradox tells Deadpool that he was ordered to capture Deadpool “for a purpose even unclear” to himself. Paradox then goes on to explain Earth-10005’s fate to Deadpool, and offers Deadpool the chance to join Earth-616 and become an Avenger. After Deadpool escapes and brings Paradox a new Wolverine variant, the TVA’s original plans for Deadpool are brushed aside, and Hunter B-15 simply agrees to let Deadpool and Wolverine live peacefully on Earth-10005 and save X-23 from the Void.
Deadpool May Be A Key Figure In The MCU’s Next Multiversal War
The TVA’s Original Plans For Deadpool May Be Revealed In Doomsday And Secret Wars
Deadpool & Wolverine‘s omission of the TVA’s reasoning for capturing Deadpool may be a wise one. Deadpool & Wolverine‘s plot works perfectly without any further detail about Deadpool’s capture, and his journey to become “Marvel Jesus” can be saved for later. Since Deadpool is likely to appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars alongside Wolverine and many other Marvel characters, his MCU character arc could continue with the start of his original mission. What Deadpool needs to do to become an official Avenger and a key MCU hero may only be revealed at the end of Phase 6.
Still, there are a couple of possible scenarios where Deadpool can work for the TVA and earn himself the “Avenger” title in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. For instance, Deadpool could sacrifice his immortality to save the multiverse (which he tried to do in Deadpool & Wolverine before Wolverine arrived to help him), land the final blow on Doctor Doom, or play a key role in the rearrangement of the multiverse. Using his fourth-wall knowledge of real-life Marvel history, Deadpool could also be in charge of introducing mutants in the MCU after Phase 6 with the help of Loki and the TVA.
Avengers: Secret Wars May Be Adapting Deadpool’s Own Secret Wars Storyline
Deadpool’s Role In Marvel Comics’ Original Secret Wars Storyline Was Canonically Forgotten By Everyone
Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars could draw inspiration from the comics to incorporate Deadpool into Phase 6’s two-movie conclusion. In Marvel Comics’ Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars, it’s revealed that Deadpool participated in the original Secret Wars storyline, assisting the rest of the heroes. Deadpool finds and bonds with the symbiote before Spider-Man, has a short romance with the Wasp and Zsaji, saves Captain America’s life, helps defeat Kang the Conqueror, and helps Mister Fantastic and Hulk save all the heroes from certain death. Unfortunately for Deadpool, every Marvel character forgets he participated in Secret Wars.
Similarly, Avengers: Secret Wars could feature Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool prominently, making him one of the film’s central heroes. Deadpool could fight Doctor Doom alongside Spider-Man, Captain America, the Fantastic Four, and other multiversal heroes such as Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, Chris Evans’ Captain America, and a new variant of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. It would be up to Avengers: Secret Wars to adapt the memory-wiping spell that removes Deadpool from everybody’s memory, which could seem repetitive after Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s ending, but could also inspire an MCU Deadpool and Spider-Man team-up soon afterward.
Deadpool Thwarting Paradox’s Time-Ripper Scheme Might Have Been Planned By The TVA
Deadpool And Wolverine’s Victory Over Cassandra Nova And Paradox May Have Been Part Of The TVA’s Original Plans For Deadpool
The reason why Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t elaborate on the TVA’s original plans for Deadpool might have been that the movie’s whole plot was instigated by the TVA itself. Perhaps the TVA’s higher-ups already knew about Paradox’s illegal Time Ripper, and bringing Deadpool to thwart Paradox’s evil schemes worked as the perfect test of courage for their next multiversal savior, Wade Wilson. In order to prove that Deadpool has the potential to be a key player in the MCU’s fast-approaching Multiversal War, the TVA (or Loki himself) might have taken Deadpool directly to Paradox and let him figure it all out.
Having trusted Deadpool’s skills and heroism in Deadpool & Wolverine, the TVA’s first test for an unknowing Deadpool may have been a success. For now, Deadpool has earned a well-deserved break and a boost to his morale. Deadpool now understands a little more about the multiverse and how to work with a team (without killing his teammates), and dying in Thor’s arms certainly made an impact on him. So, when the next Multiversal War comes in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, Deadpool may be fully prepared to fulfill his destiny, perhaps as the TVA planned it from the beginning.
