Woman Steals 7-Day Old Baby During Naming Ceremony In Nasarawa

One Khadija Aliyu has been arrested for stealing a seven-day old baby during a naming ceremony in Keffi, Nasarawa state.

This was confirmed in a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Nasarawa state police command, DSP Ranham Nansel, on Sunday

The police reported that at about 6:30 PM on Saturday, officers attached to the Keffi Division arrested Khadija Aliyu for stealing the baby girl during a naming ceremony in Keffi.

The suspect has confessed to committing the crime.

The statement reads, โ€œOn 28/9/2024 at about 1830hrs, Police operatives attached to Keffi Division arrested one Khadija Aliyu โ€˜Fโ€™ for stealing a seven days old baby girl during her naming ceremony in Keffi

โ€œThe suspect, who has been claiming to be pregnant, attended a naming ceremony behind the INEC office, Keffi. While the event was ongoing, she sneaked into the house and stole the baby that was laid to sleep, carried the child behind her back, covered her with a veil, and escaped before she was later arrested.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has called on members of the public to keep a watchful eye over infant babies during birthdays and other childrenโ€™s ceremonies.

โ€œSimilarly, one Hussaini Mohammed, a resident of Behind Stadium, Keffi, and an ex-convict who left the correctional facility a few months ago, was arrested by Police Operatives attached to Angwan Lambu Division, Keffi for motorcycle theft.โ€
