Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 BTS Photo Reveals Live-Action Aang Star Return With His Iconic Look

Gordon Cormier gets back into character and prepares to return to the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender for season 2. The live-action adaptation of the beloved Nickelodeon animated series aired in February 2024, with a renewal for a second and third season coming a month later in March. After awakening from a hundred-year slumber, season 1 saw Aang travel to learn mastery over the element of water in the hopes of bringing an end to the Fire Nation’s tyranny. Filming on Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 got underway in September.




The official Netflix Twitter/X account has shared a new image of Cormier’s return to Avatar: The Last Airbender. Check it out below:

With a caption stating that the star is ready to return to the series’ world for season 2, the post featured an image of Cormier having his head shaved to reprise the role of Aang. In the image, Cormier isn’t entirely bald; instead, he has the familiar arrow-shaped Airbender tattoo shaved into his hair.

Don’t Expect A Drastic Redesign Just Yet


While the image certainly evokes the appearance of Aang, this will not be Cormier’s official look for season 2. For his appearance in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender series, Cormier shaved his head and received a slightly updated design for Aang’s tattoo that incorporated a more intricate pattern featuring swirls and waves. As such, it is likely that the rest of the actor’s hair will soon be shaved to prepare him for the tattoo.

The tattoo designates Aang as an airbending master, something he achieved at a very young age thanks to his skill and increased power from being the Avatar.


However, those wondering what Aang would look like with hair will only have to wait until Avatar: The Last Airbender season 3, as due to circumstances revealed later in the story, Aang grows a full head of hair he retains for a good portion of the season. As such, viewers can expect Cormier to have a drastically different look once season 3 enters production, assuming the live-action show follows along with the animated series’ story. For now, Aang’s appearance will stay the same.

Production Is Ramping Up

While it is still early, it is clear that the excitement surrounding Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 is ramping up after filming began in September.
