El-Rufai Challenges Corruption Allegations, Vows To Swear On Quran

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has vehemently denied allegations of financial misappropriation during his tenure, declaring his readiness to swear on the Quran to prove his innocence.

Speaking during a Hausa programme on Freedom Radio in Kaduna, El-Rufai asserted that his entry into politics was driven by a sincere commitment to public service rather than personal gain.

โ€œI did not join politics to steal money or enrich myself. I was satisfied with what I had before becoming governor,โ€ El-Rufai stated emphatically, addressing accusations of embezzling public funds.

โ€œI have always prayed for guidance in all I do, and I strive not to betray the trust of the people.โ€

In response to the Kaduna State House of Assemblyโ€™s recent report alleging misappropriation of N423 billion during his administrationโ€™s eight-year tenure, El-Rufai remained resolute.

He hinted at legal actions against those tarnishing his reputation but affirmed his focus on personal pursuits, including reading and writing.

โ€œWhen the former governors of Kaduna State and other leaders are ready to swear with the Quran that they never misappropriated public funds, I will join them,โ€ El-Rufai challenged, expressing confidence in his integrity.

โ€œI have no fear because I know I never took money that belonged to the people. I have left everything to Godโ€™s judgment.โ€

El-Rufai also hinted at a return to active politics, revealing plans to re-engage in political activities in 2027 after completing ongoing personal endeavours.

He emphasized that for him, there is no retirement from political engagement.

The allegations against El-Rufaiโ€™s administration have sparked political controversy, with some members of his cabinet dismissing the House of Assemblyโ€™s findings as politically motivated.
