“I have always been known for daring choices with my hair” – Yvonne Jegede reacts to criticisms for going bald for a new movie role

Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has reacted to the criticisms she received for going bald for a new movie.

Kemi Filani reported two days back that Jegede had created a stir online as she went bald for a new movie role. The movie star, via her Instagram page, shared a video of her cutting her hair as she revealed that she made the bold decision to showcase her dedication to her craft and the depth she brings to her character.

She said she always believed that to tell a story authentically, one must be willing to give everything to the role, even if it means stepping out of one’s comfort zone. Yvonne also revealed she is learning to speak the Yoruba language.

Now, taking to her Instagram page, Yvonne shared a 15-year throwback photo of herself with a bald look, as she noted how she has always been known for daring choices with her hair. The movie star made it known that letting go of her hair wasn’t about money, but the movie demanded a transformation and the unmatchable talent of the writer/producer.

Yvonne stated that she isn’t one for champagne roles that are about looks but is drawn to riskier roles. She disclosed that she was on the phone with her manager, telling him she had to be in the movie because the story captivated her. The single mother of one went on to appreciate the public for their support.

“Fifteen years ago, I took the bold step of going completely bald. I’ve always been known for daring choices with my hair, and maybe that’s because I’m blessed with great hair. #Aja AjaTheMovie demanded a transformation – not just for the money, but because of @lopeorire (the brilliant Writer/Producer) whose talent is unmatched. I’m not one for “champagne” roles that are all about looks; the riskier, the more I’m drawn in. I was on the phone with @officialsamokatunji1 (my manager) every day, telling him I HAD to be in this film because the story captivated me.

When this movie drops on streaming platforms, expect to see me front and center! I’m immensely proud of this project – NOTHING like what’s out there. This film will spark debates, and that’s exactly why I poured everything into this role.

Thank you for all the support, and I know you’re going to love #Aja. This project is my baby – forget that Titi Orire owns it; it’s MINE.

Yvonne Jegede is every director’s dream and every producer’s delight – no stress on set, and all in for promotion”.

Yvonne isn’t the only one who has transformed for a movie role. In May, Jide Awobona called out popular film director and screenwriter Abey Jomo over his epic transformation. He revealed that he was placed on a heavy, strict diet for his character and shared a screenshot of the strict rules he was given. Questioning what he had done to him, he lamented over the rules.

Also, Bukunmi Oluwasina had proven how far she can go in interpreting her movie roles by shaving her hair and going on a diet. According to her, in her ten years of being an actor, this role was the most challenging and breathtaking role she had ever played. However, she was glad she can wear it like a dress.
