Imo Govt Gives Burnt Underaged Girl Health Insurance Coverage

The Imo State Government through the Imo State Health Insurance Agency has given an underaged girl who was allegedly abused and battered by her step mother health insurance coverage.

In a viral video posted by an Owerri based journalist and Human Rights Activist, Chidiebube Okeoma, an underaged girl, Emmanuel Amarachi was allegedly brutally battered and parts of her body burnt by her step mother.

In the video, a good spirited resident of Owerri who called the attention of the Human Rights Activist to the plight of the minor said she saw Amarachi hawking sachet water around Naze roundabout.

According to her, she noticed that the victim was feeling feverish, and saw her eyes were red and parts of her body were covered with cuts, bruises, scars from burns and a deep flesh injury on her left leg.

She asked her what caused her body injuries and the victim said it was inflicted by her stepmother because she cooked rice without her consent to quench hunger.

However, Okeoma the Human Right Activist took the 12years old victim to the Imo State Health Insurance Agency office in Owerri were the government promised to cover all the cost the victim will incur during her treatment.

In a post on the social media handle of the agency, the Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Dr Uchenna Ewelike said the child will receive all the medical attention needed for her full recovery and referred her to Imo Specialist Hospital, Umuguma for treatment.

The post reads in part: โ€œFollowing this, the Chief Executive Officer of the Imo State Health Insurance Agency, Dr Uchenna Ewelike directed the enrollment of the victimised underaged child into health insurance to enable her receive the necessary treatments and care including constructive surgeries to fast track her healing from the unjust treatments meted out on her by the wicked stepmother.

โ€œThe enrolled child who will henceforth have access to quality healthcare services whenever she needs was immediately referred to Imo Specialist Hospital, Umuguma for treatments and medical attention by specialist Doctors.โ€
