JUST IN: Police Arraign Abia Lawmaker For Assaulting Driver, Granted N500,000 Bail

Abia lawmaker, Alexander Mascot Ikewechegh was on Wednesday arraigned at the Kuje Magistrate Court for assaulting an e-hailing driver.

He was arraigned before His Worship Abubakar Umar Sai’id and pleaded not guilty to charges of abuse of office, assault, and threat to life levelled against him.

Counsel to the lawmaker made an oral application for bail, which was granted.

The bail was set at N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

According to the court, the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide utility bills as proof of residence.

The case was adjourned to November 8 for a hearing.

Recall the lawmaker had assaulted the driver on Sunday at his residence while he was commissioned to deliver an item to him.

The lawmaker has since apologised and has also been placed under investigation by the House of Representatives.
