Smallville Stars Reunite In Murder In A Small Town Episode 4 Trailer

Former Smallville co-stars Kristin Kreuk and Erica Durance are set to reunite onscreen in the mystery series Murder in a Small Town. Based on the Alberg and Cassandra Mysteries by the late Canadian mystery author L.R. Wright, Murder in a Small Town season 1 recently premiered on Fox on September 24. Kreuk, perhaps best known for her role as Lana Lang on The CWโ€™s long-running Superman prequel show, portrays Wrightโ€™s small-town librarian Cassandra Mitchell opposite series co-lead Rossif Sutherland (Staff Sergeant Karl Alberg).

A new trailer for Murder in a Small Town episode 4, โ€œPrized Possessionsโ€ (via TV Promos), shows Kreukโ€™s former Smallville co-star joining the show as a guest star. Based on Wrightโ€™s fifth Alberg and Cassandra Mystery novel of the same name, Durance is set to play Emma Oโ€™Brea, one of Cassandraโ€™s childhood friends who discovers that her husband has gone missing, and her home has become the scene of a brutal crime. As Cassandra shares her knowledge with Alberg, the detective begins to learn the shocking truth of Emmaโ€™s marriage. The episode airs next Tuesday, October 15. Check out the trailer below:

What Kreuk And Duranceโ€™s Latest Onscreen Reunion Means For Their Chances Of A Smallville Return

The Smallville Cast Have Been Wanting To Return For Years

Though Kreukโ€™s Lana Lang and Duranceโ€™s Lois Lane were often depicted as romantic rivals throughout their time on Smallville, the two actors have remained close since their time on the superhero show and frequently attend fan conventions together. This latest onscreen reunion, however, will likely only serve to bolster calls to see the pair return to their original characters via an official Smallville revival series.

Over the years, both Kreuk and Durance have expressed their willingness to return to the DC property that first catapulted them into the public eye, with Durance even making a cameo appearance in 2019โ€™s Crisis on Infinite Earth crossover event opposite Tom Welling as Clark Kent. Most recently, Durance also talked with Screen Rant about another potential return as Lois Lane and what the future may have held for her character since the show ended in 2011.

Durance indicated she’d be interested in exploring new aspects of Lois’ character, such as her past and her role as a mother.

With Welling still actively pushing for his animated Smallville sequel series, perhaps this latest onscreen reunion between Lana Lang and Lois Lane will be just what Warner Bros. and DC Studios need to give that highly anticipated project the green light.

Our Take On Erica Durance Joining Murder In A Small Town

Kristin Kreuk’s New Mystery Series Can Only Benefit From More Smallville Connections

While the chances of an official return to Kreukโ€™s and Duranceโ€™s Smallville characters remains uncertain, at least for the time being, the latterโ€™s addition to the cast lineup of Murder in a Small Town is certain to bolster interest in the Canadian mystery series. Currently having only attracted a handful of reviews since its September debut, it is clear that Kreukโ€™s new show lacks the instant brand recognition that Smallville enjoyed in associating with Superman.

Nonetheless, the few responses that Kreukโ€™s show has attracted so far largely point to Murder in a Small Town being a pleasing, character-driven journey more reminiscent of the British approach to mystery shows. Duranceโ€™s addition as murder suspect Emma Oโ€™Brea will likely only help to continue the show as it seeks to find its footing and establish its own dedicated fanbase.
