Sports journalists kidnapped en route Uyo for Super Eagles vs Libya AFCON qualifier match

Some sports journalists who were travelling to Uyo, through Anambra State to cover a football event in Awka Ibom State have been kidnapped.

Blueprint understands that the Super Eagles will lock it on with Libya in an African Nations Cup qualifier in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday.

While the number of the journalists abducted while travelling in a bus through Iseke, around the Ihiala area of Anambra on Wednesday 9th of October, 2024 could not be immediately ascertained, some sources hinted that some of them have been rescued.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga on Thursday, said men of the Command have been deployed to rescue the journalists.

โ€œWe intercepted the information as was being shared on various social media platforms yesterday, and we went to work immediately.

โ€œAs I speak to you, a joint operation is ongoing. We are however not sure if they are in captivity or were able to escape.โ€

Ikenga said he has no information on the rescue of any of the victims, but assured that operatives of the Command were working to free the abducted newsmen.
