This 8 Minute Doctor Doom Roast Is Essential Viewing For Robert Downey Jr

Doctor Doom will soon be appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe played by Robert Downey Jr. in Avengers: Doomsday, and a new YouTube video may suggest a great direction for the film to follow. Following complicated Avengers problems with Kang the Conqueror, the introduction of Doctor Doom hopes to unify the stories in the MCU and satisfyingly culminate the Multiverse Saga. Following previous portrayals of the character by Toby Kebbell and Julian McMahon, Robert Downey Jr. must set his version of the villain apart.

One way to do this, as seen in a new video by Straight Outta Latveria, a page described as “Victor Von Doom’s personal channel,” is to focus more deeply on the antagonistic relationship between Victor and Reed Richards. In the video, an actor is dressed up as the villain, complete with a metal mask, and rants about all the horrible things Reed Richards has done. These deep details are pulled from Marvel Comics’ history and inform much of what is known about the character.

The video, entitled “Why I Despite Reed Richards and You Should Too,” shows the bitter but brilliant villain outlining his rivalry with Reed Richards. Having this human connection is an integral part of the villain’s path and helps to explain his motivations. While Victor is a brilliant man, he also has some very human flaws. This is expressed well in this video, where his jealousy, while sometimes childish, comes from an understandable place.

What The Doctor Doom Video Means For The MCU

The MCU’s Doctor Doom Needs To Connect Deeply To The Fantastic Four

Having a human connection between Doctor Doom and Reed Richards may be important for the MCU in outlining the villain’s motivations and helping him to better connect with the larger universe. Following the casting of Tony Stark’s own Robert Downey Jr., the studio may have been looking to build connections with Iron Man rather than the Fantastic Four for this Victor Von Doom. This is counter to comics history, where Doctor Doom has historically been deeply connected to the Fantastic Four.

Doctor Doom may debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and this would be essential for the universe. Framing multiversal conflicts through the rivalry between Victor and Pedro Pascal’s Reed would be an excellent way to add human stakes to an outsized story. Following this video, the MCU could highlight the relationship between the two characters and address the jealousy, bitterness, and rage that could go along with all of that.

Our Take On The Doctor Doom Video

The Relationship Between Victor And Reed Is Important, But Less So In An Avengers Film

The video is a fun and exciting look at the Doctor Doom character as he appears in Marvel Comics, and it suggests some vital character features that should be addressed in the MCU. However, I can’t help but feel that Doctor Doom’s connection to Reed in the MCU may not be as important here. The villain is being set up to take on the Avengers, not just the Fantastic Four. These human connections need to be established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the franchise must also remember that this conflict is much bigger than just Victor and Reed.
