Venom: The Last Dance director Kelly Marcel previews the Marvel live-action debut of Knull in Tom Hardy’s trilogy finale and his future. The end is near for Eddie Brock as Hardy is finishing his time in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe for the time being with The Last Dance. As Eddie and the symbiote are on the run following the events of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, they will also be dealing with their toughest threat yet in the form of Knull, the creator of all symbiotes.
At the Sony presentation, which Screen Rant was in attendance for at New York Comic Con 2024, Marcel was asked about any further elaboration on Knull in Venom: The Last Dance. While the actor’s identity still remains a mystery, Marcel stressed that this is only the beginning for Knull in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, sharing the following:
This is just the introduction to Knull. Obviously, he’s a massive character, so you could never do one and done with him, so this is just a taste of Knull, you will get to meet him and then what the future holds for him; who knows.
The SSU Might Not Be Ending Any Time Soon
As it remains to be seen who in the Venom: The Last Dance cast is actually portraying Knull, Marcel’s comments do signify that Sony Pictures isn’t turning away from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. For the time being, Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven the Hunter are the only remaining movies that are coming out from the franchise, as no further films have been revealed to be in the works for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe after 2024. However, if Knull is set to be used in further Sony-Marvel films after The Last Dance, that might mean that more titles are getting ready to be announced.
It may also depend entirely on how successful Knull’s debut is in Venom: The Last Dance, as Sony Pictures may be waiting to announce additional films for the franchise until they see how he does with the audience. However, if Knull’s future in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe means that he may clash with other characters, it will be fascinating to see how he is used outside the context of the Venom movies. There is also the chance that Knull could be eyed for a bigger villain role for Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man live-action TV shows after Venom: The Last Dance.
He May Not Be The Last Dance’s Big Bad
Given the power player Knull is in the comics, it will be exciting to see where else he could fit into Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. However, if Venom: The Last Dance is meant to only be a taste of Knull, it may be the case because there are other villains in the film. With only a week left to go before it hits theaters, the world will know soon enough what is in store with Venom: The Last Dance.
