The Abia State Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has presented Certificates of Return to the newly elected Mayors of the 17 LGAs in the State.
Presenting the Certificates of Return on Sunday, at the ABSIEC headquarters Umuahia, the Chairman of ABSIEC, Professor George Chima charged the Mayors to align themselves with the good job Governor Alex Otti is doing in the State. He said that what Abia needs is a holistic representation and good governance.
Prof. Chima noted that the Certificates of Return are the instruments of power.
“Today is a day to congratulate you and to give you an instrument which satisfies you as the winner called the Certificate of Return because if you don’t have it, you have not been given that hammer, that instrument of power. it is the Certificate of Returns that will qualify you to be inaugurated tomorrow. So, I wish you luck in your sojourn as the mayors of your respective local government areas”, Said Chima.
He further charged them to work closely with their Deputies for efficient service delivery. In their responses, the Mayors – elect for Umunneochi LGA, Mr. Sunday Afuruike, that of Ikwuano, Dr. Anthony Nwaubani and Dr. Okereke Ezearu assured they would deliver the dividends of democracy to their people just like Governor Otti is doing.
They appreciated the ABSIEC for conducting a free and fair election and the electorates for voting them.
