Appeal Court judgement on LG election victory for democracy’ (5th)

The Rivers chairman of Action People’s Congress (APP), Mr. Sunny Wokekoro, has lauded the Court of Appeal judgement which nullified the Federal High Court ruling on the conduct of October 5, 2024 Local Government Election in the state.

Wokekoro, while speaking to Blueprint, expressed delight over the judgement, describing it as a “victory for Rivers people and victory for democracy,” adding that the judgement was timely as it came at the time when people were beginning to lose total hope in the judiciary.

He said, “The judgement is a victory for Rivers people, Action Peoples Party, and also a victory for democracy. It was timely, because it came at the time when people are beginning to lose total hope in the judiciary. The judgement shows that the judiciary still remains the last hope of the common man.

“I believe that this judgement would restore some kind of hope that people have in the judiciary that good things can still come out of the judiciary. So, l thank God for everything.

“It is a victory for us all, and we hope that the winner and loser, if we should consider losers, for me is a winner. Democracy has won and the people should justify the mandate and the confidence reposed on them by the electorates and ensure that there is total delivery of the dividends of democracy in our respective local government areas.”
