The national grid on Tuesday suffered another collapse making it the 9th time it would experience disturbance in 11 months.
THE WHISTLER had previously reported that in October the grid collapsed three times in a week and the development prompted the Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC) to hold a public investigative hearing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the frequent grid collapses in the country.
Also, THE WHISTLER can authoritatively report that the Tuesday grid’s disturbance made the 163 times that the national grid would collapse in 11 years.
Confirming the current grid collapse, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in a statement issued by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, in Abuja, said the grid experienced a partial disturbance at about 1:52 pm.
The company, however, assured that the grid restoration process was ongoing.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria states that the national grid experienced a partial disturbance at about 1:52 pm today, 5th November 2024.
“This followed a series of lines and generator trippings that caused instability of the grid and, consequently, the partial disturbance of the system.
“The data from the National Control Centre (NCC) revealed that a part of the grid was not affected by the bulk power disruption.
“TCN engineers are already working to quickly restore bulk power supply to the states affected by the partial disturbance. Presently, bulk power supply has been restored to Abuja, at 2.49 pm, and we are gradually restoring to other parts of the country.
“We sincerely apologise for every inconvenience this may cause our electricity customers’’, TCN stated.
