Building Collapse In Ibadan Kills 10, Injures Many — NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the death of ten persons following a building collapse on Thursday morning in Ibadan, Oyo State capital

The NEMA South-West Zonal Office stated that the agency received a distress call reporting a building collapse in Jegede, Ona Ara Local Government Area, of the State.

According to the update on its X page, the Zonal Coordinator Mr. Kadiri Olanrewaju promptly mobilised the Emergency Response Team along with other agencies to the scene.

The agency stated that the rescue teams, comprising NEMA, Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC), and the Oyo State Fire Service, successfully rescued five individuals, including an adult male, two adult females, and two children.

It that the survivors were transported to Mercyland Clinic and Maternity Centre for immediate medical care, while ten people were confirmed dead at the scene.

The update noted that one adult victim was discharged, while another, who was found unconscious, was transferred to Adeoyo General Hospital in Ibadan for further treatment.

The statement read, “The Zonal Coordinator Mr kadiri Olanrewaju activated the Emergency Response Team and other Stakeholders to the scene of incident. with the combine effort of response Stakeholders five (5) persons were rescued alive, which includes One (1) Adult Male, Two (2) Adult Female and Two (2) Children were rescued from the rubbles.

“They were moved to MERCYLAND CLINIC AND MATERNITY CENTRE for immediate medical care. Unfortunately, Ten (10) persons lost their lives in the incident.

“One Adult victim has been discharged from the hospital while one victim was unconscious and had been transferred to Adeoyo General Hospital at Temetu, Ibadan. Search and Rescue operations have been concluded and the scene cordoned for further action.”

Earlier, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident noting that it happened around 2:00 a.m.

“The Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call at about 2 am, at Jegede Olunloyo area, Ibadan of which 10 persons have been recovered from debris of the collapsed building, while seven persons were rescued alive,” he said.
