Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has praised Bashir Agboola for receiving the distinguished “Notable Black Leader in Healthcare” award from Crain’s New York Business for 2024.
Agboola, who serves as the Vice President, Associate Chief Information Officer, and Chief Technology Officer at the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York, was recognized for his outstanding contributions to healthcare and transformative technological leadership.
In a statement issued by NiDCOM’s Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa commended Agboola for consistently reflecting a positive image of Nigeria on the global stage.
She described his accomplishments as evidence of his dedication, exceptional leadership, and resilience, particularly during critical moments such as the COVID-19 pandemic when his leadership ensured the rapid scaling of HSS’s technological infrastructure to support uninterrupted patient care.
Dabiri-Erewa encouraged Agboola to continue as a source of pride for the nation, expressing hope that his recent accolade would propel him to further professional heights.
Agboola’s contributions at HSS, the oldest orthopedic hospital in the U.S. and one of the world’s premier centers for musculoskeletal health, have been transformative.
Founded in 1863, HSS serves over 200,000 patients annually and leads in orthopedic care and research.
It is ranked number one in orthopedics in the U.S. and stands as North America’s only hospital recognized by the World Economic Forum for its commitment to global healthcare innovation.
NiDCOM included Agboola among its inaugural 600+ Diaspora Icons in 2020, a compendium honoring notable Nigerians worldwide.
