EFCC Apprehends Chinese Brothers, Two Others For Allegedly Possessing Illegal Solid Minerals

Two Chinese brothers named Wang Jiang and Wang Richard have been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) Enugu Zonal Directorate for allegedly attempting to export certain solid minerals without the necessary authorization.

They were arrested in response to information that the Commission received on November 3, via the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) about Jiang, who was stopped at the hold baggage screening point and had three suspicious stones found in his luggage that were thought to be solid minerals.

The commission reported that while Jiang was taken into custody at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, the rest, including two Nigerians, Michael Benneth Agu and Donatus Agupusi, were arrested at the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.

In the same development, Jiang was apprehended while he was also trying to leave the country with the solid minerals so that he could test them in China.

The remaining suspects were employed by Agupusi, the owner of Great Wall Construction Limited, following preliminary inquiries into the case.

The anti-graft agency reported that preliminary investigations revealed that none of the four suspects had a permit to export the solid minerals to China.

However, the suspects will be made to face charges in court immediately after investigations are completed.
