Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state on Friday flagged off the disbursement of 2022/2023 bursary scholarship award to over 10, 000 state indigenes in tertiary institutions of learning.
During the event in Lafia, Sule said a total sum of N394, 559, 694. 41 had been approved and would be disbursed to over 10,000 students in various in institutions of learning.
He said considering the current economy reality, the government considered it necessary for the upward review of allowances to 50 per cent.
He reiterated the commitments of his administration to continue to prioritise the educational sector in the state, adding that “this is based on our conviction that building sound and quality education enhances social economy development of any society.”
Sule, who was represented by the SSG, Aliyu Ubandoma, said in the 2020/2021 over 8, 000 students benefited from the bursary allowance from the state government
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa state Scholarship Board, Sa’adatu Yahaya, appreciated the governor for his effort in sustaining the regular provision of bursary allowance to students studying in various tertiary Institutions of learning.
She said the gesture would not only enhance their academic performance, but would infuse in them a sense of patriotism as a reciprocation of government support.
“We are, indeed, indebted to your benevolence and generosity. This is unprecedented and we will never forget this generosity accorded to our dear students in the state,” she said.
