How I Met Your Mother Star Comments On Possible Franchise Return

Cobie Smulders responds to whether she would ever join a How I Met Your Mother reboot of some form if the opportunity arose. The CBS sitcom ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2014, telling the story of Ted Mosby’s (Josh Radnor) recollection of how he met the mother of his two teenage children during his life in New York. Smulders played Robin Sherbatsky in How I Met Your Mother, a Canadian news show host whom Ted meets in the premiere episode and develops an on-again, off-again relationship with.




With over 10 years passing since How I Met Your Mother concluded, Smulders opened up to Collider about whether she would ever return to a potential reunion. While Smulders had the opportunity to reprise the role of Robin for How I Met Your Father, the actor stated she would still be open to reprising her role at future opportunities.

Smulders then stated that she still had fond memories about her experience on the show and working alongside the cast and crew, meaning that though there is currently nothing in the works, she would be ready to return at any notice.

I love those people, so to be back in a scene with any of them I would do. But there’s nothing yet. That I’m in!

Early plans for the spin-off were to have each member of the original cast reprise their roles across several seasons of the show, though the series’ cancellation in 2023 cut those ideas short.

Though two years have passed since her-last in-universe appearance, 2024 marks one of the most tragic points in the timeline of the series, as it is the year that the mother, Tracy (Cristin Milioti) passes away. As such, a reunion showing the cast aiding Ted through this troubled time could be an ideal catalyst for a reunion.
