I Cant Believe DC Added One Final Insult To The Penguins Most Heartbreaking Death

DC has just mercilessly twisted the knife with The Penguin‘s most traumatizing death, adding insult to injury. Now that The Penguin has ended, it’s safe to say that showrunner Lauren LeFranc has helped to create one of the most sinister villains ever adapted to live-action, alongside Matt Reeves. The Oz Cobb that debuted in The Batman has shown himself to be an exceptionally devious criminal now at the top of his game in Matt Reeves’ The Batman trilogy after pulling off some particularly heinous acts to get there.




The finale of The Penguin was extremely well received, and helped to decidedly strip any lingering likability of Colin Farrel’s titular villain. After committing one of his most heinous acts yet, the Penguin will now emerge in The Batman – Part II not only as a newly formidable crime boss, but as an out-and-out villain liable to give Batman a run for his money. As if to drive that point home, DC has decided to kick the fandom while they are down with a rather provocative social media post.

The Penguin‘s finale brought an end to Vic and Oz’s relationship in the most brutal way, by having the latter murder the former moments after admitting that they see one another as family. Penguin’s mild-mannered young protégé struck a chord with fans with his survival instinct and enthusiasm, only for Penguin to remove him from the franchise entirely after asserting that their bond is a weakness. Just one day after The Penguin‘s explosive finale aired, the official account for The Penguinshared a post via X before the collective wound could heal featuring Aguilar on a “Missing Person” poster.

Set to release in 2024, The Penguin will continue to flesh out Matt Reeves’ Gotham with Colin Farrell set to reprise his role as Oz Cobb.


The post understandably garnered some strong responses from fans of the show still grieving Aguilar’s death, sharing the sentiment that the post came “too soon.” The Missing Person poster will of course be canon now in Matt Reeves’ Batman universe after Penguin disposed of his body in a river and discarded his ID, which will help to anonymize the body. The fact that Aguilar had no surviving family (that we know of) would also contribute to this – and it’s also what helps to make his death even more tragic.

Victor’s Similarities To Jason Todd Hinted At His Ultimate Fate


After being caught by Penguin attempting to steal the rims of his car, Victor Aguilar managed to convince the villain to spare him with the promise of his aid. It is revealed that Aguilar – one of the only good people in the show – was simply committing crime in order to survive after his parents fell victim to Riddler’s flood. Penguin recruiting him under threat of death was an early sign that he would eventually commit the murder, but the suggestion that he saw himself in the young man before sharing some genuinely touching moments made it more shocking.

The Penguin foreshadowed a similar fate for Aguilar when Oz threatened him with a crowbar of his own, hinting that the parallels between Aguilar and Todd were entirely intentional – and would culminate in this tragic demise.


The biggest hint that Aguilar would not survive the show was his similarity to DC Comics’ Jason Todd. Todd was the second to bear the Robin mantle in DC Comics, and was famously murdered by Joker with a crowbar (before being resurrected as Red Hood several years later). The Penguin foreshadowed a similar fate for Aguilar when Oz threatened him with a crowbar of his own, hinting that the parallels between Aguilar and Todd were entirely intentional – and would culminate in this tragic demise. All that being said, it will take time for fans to recover.
