Kebbi state government has donated N50 million to the families of victims killed by rampaging gunmen in Mera town, Augie local government area last Friday.
Governor Nasir Idris delivered the donation to the beneficiaries through the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Isah Abubakar Tunga, with an assurance to fight insecurity in the state.
A statement by the chief press secretary to the governor, Alhaji Ahmed Idris in Birnin Kebbi, Sunday, regretted the brazen attack on innocent souls by bandits for monetary gains.
“My administration will not fold its arms and stand aloof in the face of unwarranted attack and murder of our peace loving communities anywhere in our dear state.
“The government is working closely with all the security services and other stakeholders to nip in-the-bud, any security threat to lives and property of all residents.” the governor warned.
Comrade Nasir Idris expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the Emir of Argungu, the people of Mera town and the entire Argungu emirate on those who lost their lives in the attack, urging the families of the deceased to take solace in God in this moment of pain.
A group of bandits attacked Mera town during the Jumu’a prayers last Friday, killing 17 people and rustling a herd of cattle.
