The Marvel Cinematic Universe may be getting closer to finally having a better idea of when the X-Men reboot will happen at Marvel Studios. With Phase 5 almost being over, the MCU timeline is getting closer to kicking off Phase 6 in 2025. However, as the MCU is building towards Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios is seemingly getting closer to knowing when they are bringing the X-Men into the fold.
During a new interview with Omelete (via Discussing Film,) Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige finally offered up the first significant update on the direction of the X-Men reboot that is currently in the works. While not revealing an exact release plan for the X-Men characters’ MCU arrival, Feige stressed that it will be after Avengers: Secret Wars, sharing the following (translated):
When we were preparing for Avengers: Endgame years ago, it was a matter of getting to the grand finale of our narrative, and then we had to start all over again after that. This time, on the road to Secret Wars, we already know very well what the story will be up until then and beyond.
The X-Men are an important part of that future.
Based on Feige’s latest comments about the X-Men in the MCU, it wouldn’t be shocking if they were priming the mutants to be the leading forces of Phase 7. While The Multiverse Saga has been incredibly ambitious, it’s hard to deny that this era has had a lot more downs than up in comparison to The Infinity Saga. At this point, Marvel Studios is clearly wanting to finish The Multiverse Saga without overcrowding their slate of movies and TV shows.
It would also allow the X-Men movie that is currently being written by Michael Lesslie to get more time to perfect the vision of the mutants’ first MCU film. Assuming that the X-Men reboot is the film that will nab the July 23, 2027 release date that is currently saved for a mystery Marvel movie, summer of 2027 could be one of the biggest ones yet for Marvel Studios after Avengers: Secret Wars wraps up The Multiverse Saga. Unless they are saving the X-Men film for November 5, 2027, the July date would be a proper way to kickoff Phase 7, which many believe will be The Mutant Saga.
While time will tell where the X-Men reboot will happen, it makes sense to have the mutants play a more pivotal role after Avengers: Secret Wars. Since the final Phase 6 movie is rumored to lead to a soft reboot of the MCU, that would explain why mutants may have a bigger presence in the franchise going forward. Hopefully, more updates on the MCU’s X-Men approach will be revealed sooner rather than later.
Marvel’s X-Men is the tentative title for the future debut of the legendary Marvel mutant superhero team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.ย
