The Lagos State Government on Sunday announced a 15-month traffic diversion set to begin at Mile 2 on November 11, 2024, to facilitate the construction of a new Transport Interchange Terminal.
The diversion will impact Loop 1 on the Apapa-bound lane and Loop 4 on the Badagry-bound lane, lasting until February 16, 2026.
Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, advised motorists to use alternative routes during this period.
He clarified that traffic flow for those traveling between Oshodi and Apapa will be maintained in both directions.
For those heading to Apapa, traffic will be diverted onto Durban Road, allowing connection through Amuwo Odofin Estate back to the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.
“Motorists heading to Badagry from Apapa will continue their journey on Apapa – Oshodi Expressway and take a turn into Akinwande Road to link Coker and access Lagos – Badagry Express Way to continue their journeys. Motorists heading to Lagos from Badagry will also have a through traffic and vice versa,” Osiyemi said in a statement.
“Motorists heading to Apapa will be diverted into Durban Road to link Amuwo Odofin Estate and connect Apapa-Oshodi Express Way to continue their journeys.”
To aid navigation, diversion routes will be clearly marked with signs, and officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed along affected routes to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Osiyemi appealed to motorists for cooperation, urging patience as the diversion is a necessary part of the plans to manage traffic during the terminal’s construction.
In July, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) in partnership with Agence Française de Développement (AFD) performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Mile 2 and Marina interchange hubs.
The hubs are designed to be central nexus for rail, bus, water and non–motorised transportation, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time for Lagos residents.
