Matthew Gray Gubler's CBS Show Casts Female Lead

Einstein, the upcoming CBS show led by Criminal Minds actor Matthew Gray Gubler, has found its female lead. It was announced in October that Gubler will star in and executive produce the Einstein pilot for CBS, which focuses on the great-grandson of Albert Einstein. The project, which hails from Monk creator Andy Breckman and director Randy Zisk, has now taken another significant step forward.

Variety now reports that Rosa Salazar will star in Einstein, playing Maddie Paris. Known for her main role in the Netflix horror series Brand New Cherry Flavor, Salazar plays a Detective Inspector for the New Jersey State Police, who went into law enforcement after the death of her husband. Described as โ€œsharp and disciplinedโ€, Maddie demands a lot from her colleagues but even more from herself and feels conflicted about working with Professor Einstein, who is played by Gubler.

What Salazar’s Casting Means For Einstein

The Show Will Follow A Successful Formula

Described as a drama with comedic undertones, and based on the German show of the same name, the brilliant but directionless great-grandson of Albert Einstein is a tenured professor who lives comfortably. That changes when his wild behavior gets him in trouble with the law. He is then pressured into working with a local police detective, played by Salazar, to help her solve puzzling cases.

Salazar, who is also known for her leading turn in 2019’s Alita: Battle Angel, is the first casting for the pilot outside Gubler. It’ll be executive produced by Breckman and Zisk, with the latter directing. Intrigueโ€™s Tariq Jalil and Rose Hughes also executive produce alongside Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia and Laura Beetz for Seven One Studios International.

The premise is reminiscent of ABC’s High Potential, which has a civilian helping police because of difficult circumstances and butting heads with her partner. But it’s also worth noting that Einstein has been in the works a few times before at CBS, dating back to 2019. But for one reason or another, the project has never taken off.

Einstein is still in the pilot stage, which means there’s a chance that it might not get picked up into a series. But given the involvement of Gubler and now Salazar, who showed off her charisma in Brand New Cherry Flavor, it’s looking likely that CBS will have another popular procedural on its hands.
