The Batman 2 Has The Perfect Excuse To Bring Back Two Major DC Characters Based On 1 Scene

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for The PenguinThe Batman – Part II has the perfect excuse to bring back two major DC characters. Thanks to one key scene in The Penguin’s finale, there’s a very easy way to bring back Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) despite the ending of T he Batman from director Matt Reeves. Likewise, the movie can also introduce a key new threat to Robert Pattinson’s Batman with the introduction of Sofia Falcone/Gigante (Cristin Milioti) to the big screen.

As seen at the end of 2022’s The Batman, Selina Kyle’s Catwoman chooses to leave Gotham behind. As such, the movie ends with Catwoman heading for the nearby sister city of Blüdhaven while Pattinson’s Dark Knight returns to Gotham City. That said, The Penguin has created the perfect means to bring not only Catwoman back to Gotham, but also Sofia Gigante who made herself a key rival of Oz Cobb in the recent DC show.

The Penguin’s Ending Set Up The Perfect Justification For Catwoman’s Return In The Batman 2

Connecting With Her Half-Sister, Sofia Falcone/Gigante

Rather than killing the woman who had been running Gotham’s biggest crime family and had been calling for his head, Oz surprisingly leaves Sofia Gigante for the GCPD in The Penguin’s finale. This is because Oz worked out a deal with Gotham’s Councilman Hady to publicly pin the majority of his recent crimes on the former Falcone while also sending her back to Arkahm State Hospital where she had just spent 10 years wrongfully committed after being blamed for her father’s crimes who had murdered and hung multiple women. However, Sofia is given a letter by Doctor Rush back in her cell in the final scenes of The Penguin episode 8.

Remarkably, the letter is from Selina Kyle, another daughter of Carmine Falcone’s and Sofia’s half-sister. Likewise, Selina’s mother was similarly murdered by Carmine just as Sofia’s was (along with all the other women Carmine had killed over the years). While the contents of the letter are not revealed, the implication is that Selina has heard about Sofia and her dismantling of Carmine Falcone’s empire. As such, The Penguin has created the perfect scenario to explain Selina’s potential return to Gotham, wanting to connect with her half-sister (and perhaps even attempt to break her out).

Catwoman’s The Batman 2 Story Could Make Sofia A Key Sequel Movie Character

Sofia Could Introduce New Tensions Between Catwoman and Batman

Keeping this idea in mind, Catwoman and Sofia coming together in The Batman – Part II could create some fascinating new dynamics for Gotham City when and if this new duo potentially makes a return in the upcoming movie. Furthermore, this is especially true where The Bat and The Cat’s relationship is concerned. After all, it’s pretty clear to see how Sofia Gigante could easily create a new wedge between Bruce and Selina in the future.

It certainly seems as though Catwoman would be hard-pressed to ever want to work on the side of the angels and the rule of law when Carmine got away with everything for decades. Likewise, Sofia was wrongfully punished for a large portion of it (at least before Sofia committed crimes of her own). To that end, Selina potentially trying to break her half-sister out of Arkham would more than likely create some new tensions with Batman. At any rate, it will be very exciting to see if Catwoman and Sofia end up having key roles when The Batman – Part II releases in 2026.
