Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Bear season 3!
The first footage of The Bear season 4 has just been released, but the new teaser may have just spoiled the biggest cliffhanger from The Bear season 3’s ending. The Bear season 4 is set to be the show’s most dramatic season yet, with the ending of The Bear season 3 setting up a lot of storylines and major character changes that will impact Carmy’s world forever. One of the biggest of these season 3 revelations centered around Sydney, and while many fans can’t wait to have their questions answered in The Bear season 4, it may have already happened.
The Bear season 3 was considered to be a disappointment by some, with it being a bit slower than the previous two seasons. However, by the time that The Bear season 3 finale rolled around, fans knew that season 4 was just around the corner, with season 3 being viewed as more of a bridge between seasons two and four. There has been speculation that The Bear season 4 will be the final season of FX’s hit comedy-drama, and if that is the case, this teaser’s big Sydney reveal has even more weight.
Sydney Is Seemingly Still Working At The Bear In Season 4
After Adam Shapiro’s Big Offer
Although the teaser for The Bear season 4 only consists of a few shots from the upcoming season, it seemingly confirms that Sydney will still be working at The Bear in the new batch of episodes. One of the biggest storylines in The Bear season 3 involved Sydney’s discussions with Adam Shapiro, the Chef de Cuisine at a prestigious restaurant called Ever. Adam is planning on starting his own restaurant, and after having seen Sydney’s work, he offers her the CDC job at this new location, with the position being much better than her role at The Bear.
The Bear season 3 ends with Sydney having not yet made her decision, setting up the potential for her to tell Carmy that she is leaving at the beginning of The Bear season 4. However, the teaser for season 4 shows that Sydney is still happily working at The Bear, meaning that she may not be leaving. Sydney’s decision seemed like it has to be made fairly immediately, so any sight of her still working at The Bear is a major sign that she may be staying. Thus, it is possible that the season 4 teaser just spoiled The Bear‘s biggest Sydney reveal.
Why Sydney Staying At The Bear Makes Sense
She Can’t Leave Her Family Behind
While Sydney seems split between staying at The Bear and working at Adam’s new restaurant, staying at The Bear makes the most sense for her character. Yes, Sydney’s position at the new restaurant would be better paid, be more prestigious, and lead to the advancement of her career. However, Sydney has poured her entire life into The Bear, so leaving the restaurant behind would leave a major emotional scar on the character.
As Donna says, the cast of characters who work at The Bear are Sydney’s real family, and they can’t be replaced at any other restaurant. Sydney can’t bear to leave Carmy, Richie, Tina, Marcus, and the rest of the staff behind, even if it means getting a better career position. While it makes logical sense for Sydney to move on to Adam Shapiro’s restaurant, her heart won’t let her do it, with this possibly being the reason that she stays at The Bear in season 4.
Sydney Could Still Leave The Bear In Season 4
It Would Make Sense For Her Character Arc
Although the teaser hints that Sydney will still be working at The Bear at some point in season 4, it isn’t known what episode this clip is from, meaning that it could take place early in the season. It is entirely possible that Sydney could still end up leaving The Bear later in season 4, paying off the season 3 setup. It is doubtful that The Bear season 4’s marketing campaign would completely spoil one of the show’s biggest storylines, so it is likely that there is more to this story.
Separating Carmy and Sydney makes sense if The Bear season 4 truly is the show’s last season, setting up a sad future for Sydney and The Bear. It would be completely believable for Sydney’s job offer to cause Carmy to explode, with him pushing her away as he so often does. However, there are all kinds of possibilities for how this story could go down, with it being impossible to predict Sydney’s arc until The Bear season 4 comes out.
